CharGuy Kneeling Pad: Firsthand Review for Home Gardeners

A gardener prepares for a CharGuy kneeling mat review.

CharGuy Kneeling Pad: Firsthand Review for Home Gardeners

It’s happened to me, and it’s probably happened to you, too. You kneel down to pull a pesky weed, then you notice more within reach. Then a few others… Before you know it, you’ve been working for quite a while. When you finally stand up, your knees are stiff or have painful imprints of whatever you’ve knelt down on.

In times like these, having a lightweight, easy-to-carry kneeling mat is a true lifesaver. I’ve had to learn that the hard way, so when CharGuy reached out and asked if I would be willing to test out their extra-thick kneeling pad, I said yes right away. And let me tell you- I’ve used this mat over and over in so many garden tasks!

In this post, I’ll give you my honest opinion of the CharGuy kneeling pad, how the mat’s made, and how I’ve put it to use in my garden projects.

Let’s get started!

CharGuy Kneeling Pad Materials and Construction

According to CharGuy’s history page, the company is a family-operated small business that started with the intention of creating products the founders themselves wished were available. The company has strict product guidelines- anything they wouldn’t be willing to use themselves doesn’t make it to the market.

The product I’m reviewing today is the Extra-Thick Kneeling Pad.

CharGuy made their kneeling mat from multiple layers of dense memory foam- altogether, the foam is a generous 2 inches thick. The foam is surrounded by a neoprene outer shell, and the edges are fully enclosed with fabric tape and sturdy stitchwork.

Dimensions:

  • 18 inches long
  • 11 inches wide
  • 2 inches tall

That’s pretty on par with many garden kneeling mats, and it should comfortably fit people of most sizes.

I like that the mat is a single, lightweight piece. There is no official weight listed, but I can tell you that it only weighs a few ounces, if that. The handle is built-in, and it’s large enough to easily get your fingers in for a quick grab-and-go.

How Did the CharGuy Kneeing Pad Perform?

My first test for the kneeling pad was an outdoor project assembling two metal raised beds, a process that takes a couple of hours and involves lots of screws, nuts, and bolts. The project took place on a cold Midwestern April day that was spitting snow/rain.

A gardener uses a kneeling pad while assembling a metal raised garden bed.

The kneeling pad made the entire process so much easier and more comfortable while screwing all those metal panels together. I also found that the mat kept my knees dry, and the neoprene fabric was easy to brush clean afterward. The ground wasn’t exactly warm either, so I appreciated that the pad formed a barrier.

Even though I spent quite a bit of time kneeling on the ground, I had no knee pain or stiffness afterward. If you’ve got some assembly projects like that for your yard or garden, I can’t recommend this mat enough!

I’ve also used the mat indoors for potting up seedlings I started in my basement. We have indoor/outdoor carpet over cement in the room I use for seed-starting, and the mat was the perfect cushion for the job.

One thing I really like is that it’s so easy to grab and go with this mat. And because of that, I’m much more likely to actually use it everywhere and not just leave it on a shelf somewhere.

CharGuy Kneeling Pad Pros and Cons

Here’s a rundown of what I liked about this kneeling pad and one small issue.

Pros:

  • Ideal for indoor or outdoor use
  • Ultra lightweight for easy transport
  • Thick foam provides great protection and support
  • Sturdy construction
  • Generous size is comfortable
  • Neoprene layer blocks moisture
  • Convenient carrying handle
  • Easy to brush clean
  • Ideal for other indoor/outdoor projects (including plumbing, home repairs, sitting at sporting events, etc.)

Cons:

  • The product description says the pad is washable, but no instructions are provided. I’ve had bad luck with machine-washing foam products before- the pad ended up permanently dislodged. So I recommend hand washing and air drying if your mat gets too dirty to brush clean.

Final Thoughts: Is the CharGuy Kneeling Pad Worth It?

In my opinion, the CharGuy Kneeling Pad is a great value thanks to its high-quality material, smart construction, and how easy it is to use and transport. I’ve found lots of uses for it around my yard and garden, and I could also see using it while camping or at sporting events. It’s also nice to support a USA-based small business, so I give it extra points for that as well.

I feel good recommending this kneeling pad for home gardens and landscaping projects, and I look forward to using mine for years to come.

I’d love to hear from you! Do you have any other questions about the CharGuy kneeling pad? I’m happy to help any way I can, so please feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
