9 Best Gardening Tool Belts in 2023

9 Best Gardening Tool Belts in 2023

Gardening requires all kinds of tools to get the work done, including an assortment of small hand tools that you may need at a moment’s notice. Thanks to their small size, they can be easy to misplace, remaining hidden in the grass until you make an unfortunate pass with the lawnmower.

A gardening tool belt is a convenient way to keep hand tools organized, safe and at the ready.

Most gardening belts have multiple pockets for holding tools like a trowel, spray bottle, garden pruners and gloves, and some even have a specialized slot for safely housing a garden knife. Thanks to an adjustable waist closure, gardening belts comfortably fit a wide range of sizes.

In this article, you’ll learn the details of 9 of the best gardening tool belts, and also pick up some tips for key features to keep an eye out for.

Let’s get started!

1. Truly Garden – Garden Tool Belt

**Best Overall Tool Belt

Truly Garden - Garden Tool Belt
  • Dimensions: 11 inches wide and 9 inches tall
  • Belt adjustability: Fits waists 26 to 48 inches (larger size also available)
  • Material: Polyester material
  • Number of pockets: 5, also has 1 carabiner clip, 1 utility loop and 1 elasticized loop with a snap closure
  • Machine Washable: No, surface washable only

This gardening tool belt from Truly Garden comes in as our top pick, for lots of reasons. Truly Garden literally packed useful features into every nook and cranny of this belt!

You have a total of five actual pockets, with the largest one having a zippered closure. This might be my favorite feature of the whole belt since it eliminates the possibility of your gear slipping out while you’re hard at work.

A close second for a favorite feature is the mesh pocket with elasticized top. This lets you keep your water bottle or a spray bottle close at hand, and the stretchy top keeps it securely in place. The breathable mesh releases moisture, so you won’t end up with an uncomfortable wet spot if the bottle sweats or leaks.

Yet another cool feature is that the pouch is not attached to the belt, so you can quickly shift it out of the way if you need to kneel down or make an awkward reach to pull a weed. Also, you could switch the belt out if you prefer leather or another material.

This belt fits waists up to 48 inches, but if you want a little extra belt length, you can purchase a larger size that fits waists up to 54 inches. It’s the same pouch/belt we’re looking at here, just with the addition of a 6-inch belt extender.

There’s really a lot to like here, and it’s tough to find a downside. The only thing that’s kind of a bummer is that it’s not machine washable, so you’ll have to surface-clean your bag when it gets dirty.

PROS

  • Plenty of storage options
  • Large central pocket with zipper
  • Pouch is removable from the belt
  • Mesh bottle-holder
  • Extended size available

CONS

  • Not machine washable

2. N1 Oxford Tool Belt

N1 Oxford Tool Belt
  • Dimensions: 8.66 inches wide and 6.69 inches tall
  • Belt adjustability: Fits waists up to 51.2 inches
  • Material: Oxford fabric
  • Number of pockets: 8
  • Machine Washable: No, surface washable only

N1 designed this tool belt with electricians, carpenters and other skilled tradespeople in mind, so the sturdy construction should be more than capable of handling any gardening and landscaping tasks that come your way.

The number and arrangement of the pockets is the true standout feature here. You have a total of eight pockets in various sizes, so no matter what tools you want to stow away, there should be a perfect size.

All of the pockets are spacious, and most have a wide bottom rather than just being a flat slot.

Our favorite pocket is the humongous central one. You’ve got plenty of space for your garden gloves, a trowel, pruner and the like. Besides just being roomy, the Oxford fabric is stiff enough to prevent the sides from collapsing, and there’s even a flap with a Velcro closure.

Have you ever had a problem with the sharp tip of your pruners poking a hole through a tool belt? Not here, thanks to thick Oxford cloth that’s nearly puncture-proof, no matter which pocket you use for pruner storage.

All of these pockets do take up space, though. This belt sits 5.11 inches deep, so it’s definitely the bulkiest option on the list here. But it’s got a pretty small overall shape, and you can position it over one hip to keep it out of your way.

One downside users mentioned is that the belt doesn’t get short enough for some people with small frames. N1 doesn’t list the smallest size the belt can adjust to, just the maximum length of 51.2 inches.

So if you have a small waist but you still want to try this belt out, you may have to wear it a bit lower on your hips.

PROS

  • Plenty of storage pockets
  • Large central pocket with Velcro flap
  • Compact design
  • Webbing-reinforced seams

CONS

  • May not adjust small enough for some people

3. MYH Garden Tool Belt Holster

MYH Garden Tool Belt Holster
  • Dimensions: 9 inches wide, 13.8 inches tall
  • Belt adjustability: Fits waists 24 to 46 inches
  • Material: Polyurethane leather
  • Number of pockets: 3, also has a utility loop and a steel D-ring
  • Machine Washable: No, surface washable only

This simple garden tool belt offers plenty of space for the true essentials (including your phone!) and the water-resistant material won’t warp or becomes discolored from moisture.

The material is made of polyurethane that has the look and feel of leather. But with its synthetic nature, the material repels water and dries quickly, and it’s also resistant to damage from sunlight or temperatures.

One thing we think is really nice about this option is its small size and that you can position fully over the side of one hip. This keeps your tools still in easy reach but keeps your belt from getting the way of kneeling or walking.

But while the spare design is a great feature for some gardeners, it may not offer enough space for others. So if you like to carry a few extra tools while you’re out working, this one may not have the capacity you need.

PROS

  • Convenient to wear over your hip
  • Leather-like material
  • Perfect size for a few essential tools
  • Waterproof and hand-washable

CONS

  • May be too small for some gardeners

4. The Original Pink Box PB2BELT Tool Belt

The Original Pink Box PB2BELT Tool Belt
  • Dimensions: 11.02 inches tall and 20.87 inches long
  • Belt adjustability: Fits waists 23 to 43 inches
  • Material: Polyester canvas
  • Number of pockets: 10, and one utility look
  • Machine Washable: Yes

With this bright-pink tool belt, your flowers won’t be the only colorful thing in the garden!

And besides just its cheery color, this tool belt offers a fantastic array of pockets in various shapes and sizes. Even if you want to carry a large water bottle or a standard-size tablet, you should be able to fit them in.

Also, we really appreciate the convenient 3-piece design of the belt itself and two removable pouches. It’s nice for a couple of reasons:

  • One pouch has a utility loop that you can position to be at the front or back of a pouch depending on which side you place your pouches.
  • It makes it easy to wash and air-dry your pouches.
  • You’ve got the flexibility to position your pouches where they’re most comfortable for you.

The only thing that would be a nice addition is a drawstring closure on the large pockets. Depending on what you have in there, the tops could start to gape a little bit.

PROS

  • Awesome bright pink color
  • 10 pockets in all sizes/shapes
  • Removable pouches are easy to wash and position
  • Fits a wide range of sizes

CONS

  • A drawstring on the large pockets would be helpful

5. GERYMU Gardening Organizer Bag with Removable Deep Pockets

GERYMU Gardening Organizer Bag with Removable Deep Pockets
  • Dimensions: Each pouch is 5.9 inches wide and 11.4 inches tall
  • Belt adjustability: Fits waists up to 48 inches
  • Material: Canvas
  • Number of pockets: Four
  • Machine Washable: Pouches are machine washable

You’ve got lots of options here to customize your gardening belt!

The belt includes four pouches, all of which are easily removable. This lets you use just the pouches that you need for a given day’s tasks. Also, you can quickly remove a dirty pouch and throw it into the washing machine.

One of the four pouches has a Velcro closure, so it’s perfect for keeping your phone, keys or any other object from falling out while you’re working.

The other three pouches are basically slots. But they each have an extra layer of fabric that creates a small second pocket, which we think is a clever way to capitalize on space. The pouches are roomy enough to hold items like a pruner, a trowel, a garden knife or a small spray bottle easily.

But while the pouches are really well-designed and handy, the belt portion leaves a little something to be desired. It’s a standard woven canvas belt that you’re probably used to seeing on backpacks and the like, so it’s certainly strong enough.

However, some users say that it’s a bit on the thin side and has a tendency to slide and twist.

PROS

  • Four pouches are easy to add/remove
  • Machine-washable pouches
  • Velcro closure on one pouch

CONS

  • The belt may shift during a long day of use

6. Texas Canvas Wares Tool Belt

Texas Canvas Wares Tool Belt
  • Dimensions: 9 inches tall, 25.5 inches wide
  • Belt adjustability: Fits waists 28 to 52 inches
  • Material: Waxed cotton canvas
  • Number of pockets: 11, also has two utility loops and a steel D-ring
  • Machine Washable: Surface washable only

Is plenty of storage a priority in your gardening tool belt? This option from Texas Canvas Wares delivers with 11 pockets in a variety of shapes and sizes, a utility loop on either end and a D-ring.

The strong cotton canvas provides a sturdy base that holds up great in sunlight or extreme temperatures. Texas Canvas Wares also put a wax sealant on all surfaces, which is awesome for repelling water and deflecting scratches.

Another thing that’s really nice about this option is the wide range of sizes that it can comfortably fit. And the quick-release clasp won’t leave you struggling to get your belt on or off.

The pockets are all fairly small and narrow, really more of a slot than an actual roomy pocket. This design makes them ideal for holding most gardening hand tools without slipping. One thing we really like is that each pocket has metal rivets for extra reinforcement.

But one thing to be aware of: If you’re looking to carry a bottle of water or other larger object, the slots may be too narrow to accommodate them.

PROS

  • 11 total pockets with dual utility loops and D-ring
  • Sturdy material with wax coating
  • Rivet-reinforced pockets
  • Holds tools securely

CONS

  • Pockets can’t hold bulkier items

7. FASITE YL003G 7-Pocket Gardening Tools Belt

FASITE YL003G 7-Pocket Gardening Tools Belt
  • Dimensions: 13.4 inches wide and 9.5 inches tall
  • Belt adjustability: Fits waists up to 42 inches
  • Material: Woven polyester
  • Number of pockets: 7, and one plastic clip
  • Machine Washable: Not stated

This belt definitely has a utilitarian feel (maybe it’s the green color). And with clever pocket placements and strong construction, it certainly does its job while you do yours.

Woven polyester material repels water and dirt, and the color resists fading even in the bright sunlight. Also, the fabric is ultra-lightweight, so you don’t have a heavy belt weighing you down.

This gardening tool belt has a total of seven pockets, and one of our favorite things about it is the assortment and placement Fasite chose:

  • Three small pouches with mesh panels along the front lower edge. One of these has a drawstring closure and another has a plastic clip.
  • Two larger pockets on the front panel hold bigger items, like hand tools or a water bottle.
  • Two slots on the inside of the belt are a great addition that we haven’t seen on any other options on this list. This could be a great spot to keep your phone, since it stays more protected and is less likely to slip out while you’re working.
  • There are also a couple of fabric loops inside the large outer pockets for holding a pencil or pen.

This belt also comes in green with a reflective safety strip and also a solid black color option.

One thing to be aware of: Most users find the pockets to be a great size, but a few find that they’re too shallow to prevent tools from falling out when they bend over. If you like to use hand tools with longer handles, you may run into this problem too.

PROS

  • 7 pockets with 2 on the interior
  • Durable material
  • A few color options to choose from
  • Lightweight design

CONS

  • Pockets may not accommodate longer hand tools comfortably

8. Dickies 5-Pocket Single Side Tool Belt

Dickies 5-Pocket Single Side Tool Belt
  • Dimensions: 10.25 inches wide and 10.25 inches tall
  • Belt adjustability: Fits waists 32 to 52 inches
  • Material: Cotton/polyester canvas
  • Number of pockets: 5, and 1 utility loop
  • Machine Washable: Not stated

Dickies designed this tool belt primarily for workers in the skilled trades, so you know it’s ultra-strong and durable!

The base canvas material is already sturdy to begin with, and the three larger pockets are all reinforced with webbing material to all but eliminate the chance of sagging or ripping.

At 10.25 inches square, you’ve got plenty of space to work with. And especially with the extra-deep large pocket, you shouldn’t run into any trouble with tools falling out whichever way you have to stretch or bend.

If you’d prefer, this gardening tool belt is also available in black and white color options.

The only gripe we have is that while this belt does technically have five pockets, two of them are extremely small, about right for a pencil or other skinny item. So that essentially leaves you with three pockets to work with, and we would have liked to have seen more.

PROS

  • Super sturdy construction and material
  • Three roomy pockets
  • Multiple color options

CONS

  • More pockets would be great

9. Esschert Design Garden Tool Belt

Esschert Design Garden Tool Belt
  • Dimensions: 13 inches wide and 13 inches tall
  • Belt adjustability: Fits waists 31 to 53 inches
  • Material: Canvas
  • Number of pockets: Three, with four fabric loops for pens/pencils
  • Machine Washable: Surface washable only

With three pockets to work with, this tool belt is similar to the Dickies one we just looked at above. But there are a couple of differences:

  • This belt is 3 inches taller/wider than the Dickies one, so you’ve got extra room to hold your gear.
  • This canvas material is thinner and lighter.

But with that thinner material also comes the chance for ripping, particularly from a pair of pruners. This seems to be especially problematic if you point the pruners downwards. Since that main pocket is so large, you’ll be able to mostly avoid this problem if you lay your pruners down flat along the bottom seam.

If your tool belt gets dirty (which it most likely will since you’re working the soil!), a quick spray with the hose and pass from a scrubbing brush should be enough to get it back into presentable shape.

One thing to be aware of: Even though the belt adjusts down to 31 inches, some users state that it’s still loose on them even at the tightest setting. If you have a small frame, this may not be the best option for you, or you may need to wear this on your hips rather than your waist.

PROS

  • Generously-sized pockets
  • Easy to spray/scrub clean outside
  • Lightweight material

CONS

  • Belt may be too long for some people
  • Sharp tools may puncture fabric; need to use care

Shopping for the Best Gardening Tool Belts

There aren’t very many shopping tips to consider when picking a gardening tool belt. It’s mainly going to come down to how much capacity you need and which overall size would be most comfortable for you.

But there are a couple of considerations that might be easy to overlook:

Do You Want a Removable Pouch?

Some belts have pouches that aren’t attached to the actual belt. This can be a helpful point for a few reasons:

  • May make washing/drying easier
  • Can position the pockets/pouches anywhere you like for a custom fit
  • You can use a totally different belt for comfort, function or sizing purposes

There are three options on our list here that have removable pouches:

  • Truly Garden- Garden Tool Belt (spot #1)
  • The Original Pink Box Tool Belt (spot #4)
  • GERYMU Gardening Tool Organizer (spot #5)

Do You Want a Washable Option?

No secret here: Gardening can be dirty work.

All the tool belt options we’ve included here are washable to some degree. A couple of them can be thrown in the washing machine, while the others need hand-washing.

If machine-washability is a priority for you, these may be your best options:

  • The Original Pink Box Tool Belt (spot #4)
  • GERYMU Gardening Tool Organizer (spot #5)

All the other options can handle a gentle spray with the hose, and some can take a light scrubbing with a sponge.

Final Thoughts

We hope this list of our favorite gardening tool belts has given you some inspiration for your purchase.

There are many good options to choose from, and the best part is that most of them are affordable.
